G500 sleeping platform
I tried to aquire a cargo/sleeping platform for the G500 and could not get any change from £1000 from MB. I did see some really good unique designer platforms, but they just seemed to take the multi function remit a little too far. I opted for a local plastics company they designed it and charged £300. It realy blends in and fits in and slips out easily. I can carry the spare wheel on top of it as it creates a double tier. I will be traveling to Switzerland , and any overnight driving I was hoping to curl up in the back. Really satisfied with the cost and the look. Any one requires the details I can post. Regards. Hope you can do a hand stand , As I do not know why my uploads are so unpredictable.

Re: G500 sleeping platform
Hello Adrian,
G500 463 LHD. LWB.
The unit is black and made from 12 mm industrial plastic rigid but good flexibility. The corners are heat bonded for strength. Chemical resistant (oil, fuel etc) The finish is lightly textured almost like tree bark , so does not show surface scratches easily. The platform pushes up against the rear seats. So, the seats remain in the upright position. While in the back I suppose more room can be created by putting the seats down. There are cutouts for the anchor points and the platform can be modified to suit the individual G owners requirement as I kept mine simple .
I will try and upload more pics as the existing are really not sufficient.
Regards.

Re: G500 sleeping platform
thanks morpheus
this is what i was looking at page 19
as a roof tent is out with my club foot
and sleeping in the back is impossible even with back seats folded (to short)

Re: G500 sleeping platform
I made a frame from 20mm sq steel and a ply deck. It is level with the rear seats when they are folded down. Good for long things and sleeping. Fully removable if no longer required.
How do you post photos in this section?

Re: G500 sleeping platform
Morning Chaps,
I'm interested in what you came up with for your sleeping platforms. Could you please post some pictures when you have time (appreciate if you live anywhere near me today that doing it will be out: pouring here......again!)
Thanks,
Ph
Re: G500 sleeping platform
Hello Ph,
I am aware the plastics firm specialise in display, exhibition, and industrial stand alone units . So draws and extending or hinged additions (leafs like a table) would be possible..

Morpheus.
Re: G500 sleeping platform
Thanks for the pics, very interested in this idea but I'm at a bit of a loss as to how you will sleep on it. How tall are you? Are you sleeping side to side curled up?
Re: G500 sleeping platform
Hello Kevin,
I am 5'9".
I suppose one of my finer qualities is that I can sleep on a sixpence. Any way if your a big lad (or lass) I am sure you can extend the system with extra sliding surfaces.
I worked out that the diagonal plus the two bulk heads on either side would be sufficient. In addition to this you can put the seats down
Think I will nip out in my PJs and test it.
If I can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to ask.
Regards ,
Morpheus.
Re: G500 sleeping platform
I think I would struggle to sleep in the back curled up. Do you think if the rear seats were folded down it would be practical to have a second unit attached to the first to give a larger area?
Re: G500 sleeping platform
Hello Kevin,
Just to let you know that the sleeping space is adequate and not cramped.
I have not tested the sleeping platform on a run yet , but just climbed into my sleeping bag in the back. Dare I say that it looked comfortable enough for two.
Regards,
Morpheus
Re: G500 sleeping platform
Dear Kevin,
I think that a design entailing maybe a hinged leaf that folds out over the seats.
I am sure there will be lots of options out there.
It's time to get creative.

Morpheus

Re: G500 sleeping platform
Can't quite believe I keep following this thread about the pros and cons of sleeping and it was started by someone called morpheous !
is it for real or a dream ?
Re: G500 sleeping platform
Hello Tiny,
I think we can safely say that this is "real" as I am hoping to be at the convention with my "sleeping platform"

Morpheus
