Hi there, I have recently purchased a good looking 230GE and the main problem I have with it is the gearstick swivels around in its holder. So much so that 1st touches the dash and swivel it round and 2nd touches the rear vents!!! I can select gears but can't do it as easily as I would like. I have heard that there is a bolt missing from a shaft somewhere. Gearbox is fine otherwise.

Any one had experience of this or know how to fix the problem. Replies much appreciated as I dont intend on driving it until I have fixed this.

Gear Lever

The selector mechanisam is remote from the gear box, connected by a number of rods
thes rods are connected via arms to the gear box through rubber bushes.
When these bushes wear the selection becomes difficult and people try to force the gear lever to select gears and damage the remote shifter mechanism.
If you remove the rubber cover around the gear lever and turn it inside out you will see the shifter. the lever is held in it via a spring clip it may be that the spring clip has come out or has broken. 4 bolts hold the shifter to the tunnel and spring clips hold the rods in place , it is fairly easdy to remove but you do need a ramp. my advice would be replace the shifter and the 6 bushes for a perfect gear lever and change.
