The rear seats are the same. Fold down on both sides, so still occasional seats. Another option is to fit seatbelts in the back. I managed to get a really cool Mercedes double seatbelt from Germany.
That spec sounds ideal! I wonder how much the rear doors cost.
We're looking to replace both our cars this year, could get rid of the L200 that we use for farm work too. Would absolutely love to buy a G350, have missed my G500 (RO02 MYW) loads since I got rid of it. Only thing that worries me is fuel consumption (291g is still a LOT), and this'll be the missus's regular car so it'll need 7 seats, not sure what the arrangements are in the back on the new model, but the old foldaways with no belts were useless.

Whoever spoke about depreciation; mine was 3 yrs old when I got rid of it and I got 66% of what I paid selling it to Wheelhouse, could have been 75% if I could have been bothered with a private sale.

Stupid question time here, but what are the prices (and do they come 'loaded' or does one have to add stupid options like electric mirrors on a massive list of add-ons). I had a look around a brand new G500 in Germany and thought it was a fantastic piece of machinery: its only vice is that the official wading depth is rated at 400mm. I find this totally unacceptable for an offroader. The G-Wagens being built for the German Army have fully sealed electronics in their 2.8l V6 diesels and this allows them to wade properly (I think they are rated at the standard Army/NATO 700mm minimum). For this reason - and ONLY for this reason, I'm keeping what I've got and if I would buy a new one i'd definitely go for a 461 which I believe has fully sealed electronics. What stopped me from buying a PUR30 recently was that they only have seats for 4 people which I found totally pointless.

I agree, initial steep depreciation is only an issue if don't plan to keep it long term. I could only justify buying a new right hand drive G Professional with a plan to keep it a very long time, maybe until the world's oil reserves run so low that we won't be able to afford to run vehicles with internal combustion engines any more.
It's pretty much last chance whatever way you look at it; surely, G production cannot continue much beyond 2015?

I agree that depreciation will happen but since Im not planning on selling it I will hopefully never have to find out to what extent! I'd love to be able to order one to my exact spec, especially since i plan to keep it for the long term.
the depreciation on current G55's is huge I can't see it being any different in the future. So for a vehicle that has the potential 25+ year life span it makes economic sense to wait for the depreciation to take effect perhaps a 50% loss over the first 3 years. G-Wagens from the era before they became fashionable took huge hits, I think that this situation is likely to reoccur.

no I wouldn't be able to afford to keep both. Plus I'd probably sell the Ferrari too as the G55 would be best of both worlds! I might buy an older G for offroading though but well see.
the choice becomes more difficult when taking the new V8 direct injection engines into consideration which Mercedes will phase in from autumn onwards (starting with the new CLS); the 2012 G might show the following specification:
G500: 4.6l turbo, 435 hp, 700 NM;
G55: 5.5l turbo, 544 hp, 900 NM, 7 speed gearbox.

They are bringing in 30 of the beasts for October and it looks like there is a chance they may debut at our AGM.... appears that G500s and w461s will be special order only.
