ive had other makes before, but never been as good, BMW's arent my thing, Audi's are a thought but my brother in laws was so unreliable, golf is a sensible option, but im never sensible, i miss the Range Rover but as we know that was taken away from me by a BMW driver (might explain why i'll never buy a BMW)
we have a really good mechanic (used to rally 190's) always had mercedes when i was little and dad cousins worked as mercedes mechanics and kept American cars in our barns so would always service and fix them for us.
i walked up to murray in the car park earlier and he just looked cool, my mate pointed out every car in the car park that was just not as classy. im going to drive this 240 tomorrow, its a guy from the rugby clubs just so i can see what its like, but maybe waiting for a g is the best option?
I sold my 1986 Scirocco 16v just before Xmas and have bought a Focus ST which I like even more. Why limit yourself to Mercedes?
Shame about the Scirocco
Focus ST, bet thats a giggle   Hope it's in ASBO orange? 8)
Got to agree when it come to cars, why limit yourself to MB, there’s so much choice of real fun/classic cars out there when you compare to boring MB.
we were in a 190 taxi in Lisbon last year and it had over 500,000kms on the clock, interior which was mb tex was excellent. Having said that I sold my 1986 Scirocco 16v just before Xmas and have bought a Focus ST which I like even more. Why limit yourself to Mercedes?
My 2 cents.... I had a '98 C240 Sport Estate for 10 years. 160k miles. Brilliant car. Great Engine. Steady 27-30mpg, more on a run and driving for fun not economy all the time. A bit of rust on the tail gate, and stone chips but other than that.
I 'gave it away' for £1300, so I think your £1500 is a v.good price, especially loaded. But mine did technically need quite a few expensive updates in the short term, so your one could too (wheel bearings, bushes, exhaust box - that sort of thing) and there are electronics on those C-Class (like the Mass Air Filter) which are problematic from time to time.
The 190 is a classic, but I am thinking it is looking aged now (isn't that the point?). My vote is go for a change and try the 240 - it'll feel like a gazelle compared to the 190 tank.
Say away from the 240. They are thirsty, and doesn't have the same built quality. If you need a part for the 190, no problem. Where do you think you are going to get a starter motor for a 240?

I had a 92 190e, wished i had never sold it, keep the 190 until it blows up, parts are cheap and they just go on and on and on, The c class circa 96-99 rot like hell!!!!!!!!
Ok, as we all know I am currently G less, and the horizon isnt bleak with the mortgage and uni not being a cheap way to spend 5/6 years
I currently have Murray my trusty 190e, he has been doing good for over 2 years now with a few bits and pieces, though he has now got a slight sun roof leak, but he's 1991 and i just ticked over 140k last week
I have been offered a C240 on a '99 V plate for £1500, fully loaded, only thing not on the option list is heated seats (im talking sat nav the lot) thats done just over 130k.
what do i do, chop in my trusty 190 (that i have been told over and over again is too cool to sell) and go for the newer more reliable(?) car or do i stick with what i know so i can still fantasise about a good g popping up and break the bank for it.

p.s i know this is off topic but you lot know and love your cars, my friends just keep telling me to keep murray as he's a character!

Re: Decision Time
I know of lovely G that has been waiting for you ......
Re: Decision Time
I bought a new 190E 2.00 in 1993. In 1996 I chopped it in for a 1995 C220.
If only I knew then what I know now.
Hang onto your 190.
Re: Decision Time
Tom stick with the 190
Re: Decision Time
For you the only option I should think...

Re: Decision Time
good question, my friends always ask me the same question. I guess it is because Mercedes has that kind of 'special' attration... i don't know really.
In fact, I always go for MB just because of the G... well, the audi is an exception because it's not the main car.

Re: Decision Time
Keep. IMHO the 190e looks way way way cooler than the late 90's C.
Re: Decision Time
Keep it. My dads day to day car is a 230te (92) had it from new and it has done around 28000 miles and still going strong.

Re: Decision Time
Well Vote cast and it was Merc.
If it was the 240 two door - that might be worth it, but as has already been said, keep with the Merc and the aura it brings! 8)

Re: Decision Time
They’re cheap for a reason
As been said they rot like no tomorrow, zero class/cred, all in all pretty nasty. Keep the 190 or get an early 90’s W124 IMHO :D
Re: Decision Time
keep murray and put your money towards a G!!!!
