on the subject of the l/km and mpg i was looking at the specs on the mercedes website and was confused that the g400cdi had a lower mpg than the g55, took me a while to realise my schoolboy error...live and learn as they say

He's an accountant - he can do them in his head while preoccupying his mind with the change in rolling circumfrence that will result in the optimum fuel consumption varying with tread pattern and rubber density for a given terrain and speed.

Having grown with litres/100 Km and then moving to the UK where people talk mpg I had to figure out a quickly convert figures between the two.
I came up with the following: divide 282 into the consumption figure you have and you'll get the inverse one.
Example 282/14 mpg = 20.1 litres per 100 Km (or the typical consumption of a 280 GEL Auto!) 8)
Another one 282/14 litres per 100 Km = 20.1 mpg (or the typical consumption of a 300 GDL Auto)
Ah Ha Foneman,

@marcus :D 95% if not all distances are in kph
and all of the speed signs already are in kph
it takes a bit of adjusting to ,especially with i live on the border with mph and kph, so i would like it all kph
and the second thing is the EURO or YO YO as it is called localy , we have to carry both currencies in the wallet
Foneman may/will correct me if I am wrong, but does the Irish Republic still have the speed limits in mph whilst the distances are in kmh ?

Absolutely right. We should go back 500 years and have the King divorce his barren Spanish wife to marry his mistress only to have her head severed from her body when she was suspected committing incest with her brother so that the royal daughter of the two could declare war on Spain and have them defeated and humiliated when the incumbent Spanish emperor dared to attempt invading these (sorry, those) shores and when failed claimed that it was the weather, not the islanders who defeated him.
Problem is that individuality in this case is picturesque, but not at all practical...
And no problem, I still love being considered an honorary Englishman 8)
Was that really 500 years ago? Seems like only yesterday, i must be getting olde!

This is, in fact the precursor to bullfighting, but we run short of lions in Hispania and they attracted a lot of sextertii in duties when imported. So we trained some bulls instead. The rest is history.

were too late to catch the euro boom though, ireland caught that well and, as the irish members might know, the prices of property have soared especially dublin.
i look at it as, we a taught in km, re do sports in km (running, discus etc) more maps are in km, and a bugatti doing 400kph sounds much better than the fiddily 252mph.
im the first to say this country need to hold on to its roots as everything else is going, but this is logical in a simple way.

Re: mph to kph
Its perfectly practical to have a speedometer read in Miles per hour when the infrastructure has already been put in place to match it.

In kph it always seems like I get to where ever i,m going to more quickly. Distances just seem to fly by.
But really there is no reason at all why we should n,t be in kph already.
