removing side steps on 463
If you remove the original MB sidesteps, does it leave any visible holes?
Do you need other parts to run the vehicle as if it came without sidesteps?
In other words, can I just remove them without having to fit anything else?
thx

oooh!! Hey G, sorry for hi-jacking your post... May I also ask if one could just put the original sidesteps on without much trouble?
Thanks

You can fit rock-sliders if you like
The only holes they leave are on the inside of the sill, and you cannot see them without going below the car with a torch. There are 4 bolts each side on an SWB (6 on LWB) fairly straightforward to do, but you need to do a lot of cleaning to avoid stripping the heads of the bolts. I'd recommend putting the bolts back in to plug the holes to avoid water/dirt getting in.
lphong - sorry I have no idea if those holes exist on Gs without the factory option, as there appears to be a nut welded into the sill for the bolt to go through. Maybe these photos might help illustrate:

Hey M2! Thanks again for the info :-) I have just checked, the holes are there!
hi G. yes, just remove them and the car look like it came without them. there is a sill on all the g under the door so it won't look out of place. hope that helps/ph
Oh one more thing - my advice is purely based on early 463s, the later ones have a different sidestep that might integrate into the fender flares and be somehow attached to them...no idea about removal of that type :)
lphong - I would go one step further and check that a nut is welded in there (by inserting a threaded bolt ?) but I guess if they went to the trouble of drilling the hole...

Hmmm, just went to a local dealer and check out a 2003 G270CDI, the positions of the holes look pretty the same as my 1990.
Do you mean if there is a nut welded at the end of each hole? Sorry I don't really understand... :(
Asked the local MB dealership... the guy said 'Yes' as long as both cars are 463s, so I guess it will be okay.

YES exactly...
I have a feeling the steps should be interchangeable between the 2002 and 1990 Gs, but the only sure way is to try :)
The nuts are there... However size unknown, I just used a needle to check...
hmm will my 2002 sidesteps fit staight away on pok's 1990 truck then???
