460 Fuel Tank

A non club member is nursing the most tired example of a 300gd ( 3dr) I have ever seen suggested she would better off starting again with another 460, but won't listen, but now the fuel tank is leaking, so has anyone got a good used example at a fair price? Or a contact to the have the tank treated with something?

You can have the old one refurbished - looks like new when done.

A used one may be just as bad as the old one and a MB new one is £££££.

Refurbished mine five years ago and it is fine.

Think new MB £600? But is the 463 plastic item, so in theory should last.
Who refurbished yours, so I can pass on info?

Northern Radiators - sorry do not have a phone number. I expect there are other suppliers about.

Service was good. Get new straps when you do the job.

MB price of £600 sounds cheap and not sure if the plastic tank fits without mods and extra fittings (read extra costs).

My tank is ready to be removed to sort a leak out. I rang Northern Radiators who quoted approx £120 assuming not major surgery-they said the main place for leaks is the bottom of the neck, but when I asked about 'renu' service they said the tank was plastic lined so not possible. Can anyone confirm that my 1988 230 GE W460 is or not??

A couple of pointers!! the fuel tanks on 460G's are not interchangeable.the sender for the fuel guage fitting is different. plastic fuels tanks as supplied by MB now require that you align the exhaust tailpipe to clear the tunnel sides of the tank and bandage with heat insulation material like plumbers lagging with the foil outer wrap. ( a hole will occur in 30 minutes of motorway driving) the tank for the petrol G' up to 1990 did not have a plastic lining.... although lots of them have been "treated" with all sorts of GOOP! over the years...the newer plastic tank will not corrode but can be perforated if you expose it to rough terrain abuse..... ***contact "Buckalec" this forum for new tank straps at reasonable money***

I have a plastic fuel tank for W460 diesel for sale.
It is complete with sensor, connectors and heatshield etc...
Price is 650,- Euro

Am just about to have my 1991 petrol 463 convertred to lpg so the tank will be redundant would it be any good for the 460 ?

Hi-thanks very much, but G now sold, but I think the fuel pump we fitted needed tightening up as the leak stems from that area. The new owner has been made aware of it, and is joining the forum. Cheers.
