Lower Hinge on Rear Door Loose - 1980 460 LWB
How can i get access to the rear door hinge mounting points, as the lower hinge has come loose, which I suspect it has rusted through and failed. Also, what replacement parts are needed?
Thanks!
Sorry to tell you the rear panel has to come off! You may be able to get someone to weld the broken bit to the inner arch and take the weight of the door with the top hinge adjustment without taking the panel off.....I did lasted 2 years! Next weekend we're taking the rear panel off mine and fabricating a new corner to hold the door. JeepmadMike did this to his 460....then bob tailed the G! thinking on Mike have you still got the corner bit? last saw it on your drive, just before you moved.

Sorry no pics...but will take some of the lower door corner fix when started. my problem is the rear panels are perfect, its just that corner of the door frame so I've got to spoil the good bits!!
My mate called me Sat am as he was being threatend with shopping with wife and mother in law
I declared an emergency with the broken rear door hinge and we disapered into the garage.
We managed to replace the rotten box section without removing the rear panel.
1. From insde we cut away the inner box section leaving a 10mm lip on the left hand side as you look at it ,using a fine cutting disc.
2.We then welded in a 20mm box section which was drilled to accept the hinge bolts.
3. Trial and error with spacing plates gave us the correct alignment for the hinge. (there is a lot of adjustment on the hinges which helps).
4 Angle iron was then cut , shaped and welded to tie everything together.
So we fixed the door :D
Missed shopping :D
And I learnt to weld...thank goodness for angle grinders
Hi Grendle,
I thought so. Your mod is a really practical idea that you done in the past, would you have any pictures just to visualise the mod? MY 1980 460 has all lower body panels requiring replacements, so much welding is on the cards and very rusty, excuse the punt, with welding. I post my pictures as I progress.
