Just bought a new gadget for extracting the oil through the dipstick:

tried it out last night, and it took about 5 minutes to drain oil.

Also used it to transfer oil from can into diffs.

Price wise is seems on a par with the hand pumps, but extracts a lot quicker.

Good idea for putting oil in the diffs, not so good for removing oil from the engine as over time you will have some horrors left in the sump

Very good for a quick oil change without having to get under the car.

The tube goes right to the bottom of the sump, so should remove oil in exactly the same way as removing sump plug.

I measure out the oil and it removed 5.5 litres, so got most oil out.

The only way to ensure you have no sludge, with either method, would be to remove the sump and clean.

Hi whatever method you use to remove the old oil some is still retained in the feed pipes to the oil cooler...hence the colour of the new oil very soon after being changed.
