Which Fan?
Hi guys
Busy converting my 280GEL with a high compression coupe m110 engine :)
I have both fan assemblies wich are different, the gee one being around 8 fins and steel, the coupe on being around 14 fins & plastic.
Any thoughts on which to use?
Cheers
I'd use the plastic one, John.
That is unless you want to go electric which will save you fuel and give a bit more power.
Hate to disagree, I would suggest the metal one. But you also have best of both worlds'. Why not fit them both and given an equall amounts of time and driving conditons compare the results, i.e. coolant temperature, fuel consumption, etc, etc....
Hi Rakesh and welcome to the forum.... I can now see that you have finally joined the 21st century with its computers and stuff :D
What are you going to use the car for?
Does the high compression engine get hotter than usual?
you can use a pacet 16" thinline puller fan. your car will get more economic, more power, and less noise but if you plan to do extreme towing (i.e going uphill with a 2.5 ton trailer) or extreme climbing (loaded car in hot weather) for a long time than this fan will not be sufficient. For non extreme conditions it is perfect. Now if you dont want to go back to belt driven fan you must try and get something more powerfull
but something which can fit into the very limited space between the engine and the radiator. Pacet makes 12" extremely powerfull-high profile profan range. I am working on how to install 2 of these in my one.
If I succed that will resolve this issue for ever.
for now, I say, put the one with more blades on. It will cool better but will be a bit more heavier on the engine and later in the future you might opt for an electric set up which would be a better solution
I have been toying with this one for a while, pacet or kenlow. As shakir says pacet actually state the slim line model is not suitable for extreme use.
Another option is twin fans off a VW T4 van. They look slim enough, and are around 300mm diameter each. They come as a single unit, probably bosch motors so should be pretty good quality and as they are off a commercial vehicle should be sufficiently powerful.

that is a info worthy of investigation! now where can i get one?
scrapyard or eurocarparts?
run twin Delphi fans £35.00,on the front of my 280, took off the viscous, worked a treat. I attached on the front of the rad, there is quite a bit of room in there, regardless of depth, I think pacet and kenlowe are expensive, got mine from one of those stalls you see at 4x4 shows.
there is a cheap and often much better option, fans from french diesel cars.
i've used kenlow and pacet fans in the past and found them noisey and less effective than expected.
I fitted a citreon picasso fan on a 3.5L diesel range rover a few weeks ago its perfect, he's tried to boil it but it keeps it cool.
i use capillary thermostat from RS components to switch a relay to control the fan
where can i get one?
scrapyard or eurocarparts?
Plenty in scrappies.
If this rain ever stops I've got a T4 to play around with, will let you know how I get on.
Want to do it on the 463 as well. It sounds like ajumbo taking off when you rev. it :D
Russ
How do you have them switched Ian?
