Sorry for the bad english
engine chain broke in two, wile the car wasn't moving, it was running in stationair after a short trip.
617A automatic
What is the damage you think????
sorry to hear the bad news,i am sur esomeone can help you.
Bill Moss/ kaishi 123 MAY DAY, MAY DAY... I REPEAT....M...
bent valves , hopefully no damage to top of piston
My 460 jumped a timing chain on rev.
as Ian feared, as did I... bent valves and smacked pistons.
My local Merc Parts manager said he had never seen any damage to aforementioned in similar circumstances, and he was right.
New chain, timed and fired up on second crank!! Unbelievable but true. (7 years between incident and replacement chain by the way!!).
Don't get too despondent... likely no damage caused.
Fingers crossed.
Don't know if it applies to the 617 but on some engines the valves and pistons don't make contact. From buckalec's reply you may be lucky.
dont forget that one thing done to the 617a to make it run less stressed with the turbo, hopefully this will increase your chances of no contact...maybe!!!
Possibly...the chain probably got wedged at the bottom. When it comes to taking thigs apart, gently turning engine reverse by hand, may ease things up...just be gentle and take your time... Good Luck!

Ok thanks for the info, they will take a look at it next week, i will keep you informt
