NGK: BP6ES, BP6ET, BPR6ES, BPR6ET
CHAMPION: N9YC, RN9YC
BOSCH: W7DC, W7DTC
BERU: 14-7DU

All good, but Bosch superior quality and costs more...
Good Luck!

Re: Correct spark plugs ?

I removed one of the plugs in my 280 to check for corrosion and while removing the HT lead, managed to pull the wire out of the boot at the spark plug end. (cylinder 4)

1. so I need a replacement, either single or set, any suggestions?
does quality matter? magnecor do a lovely set of race quality leads for less than a ton, would it make any difference?

2. what is the best way for a person with no air compressor to clean all the c**p out of the plug wells? it would be nice to not have debris falling into the cylinders while i change the plugs. ( a can of compressed air is £10, that seems pricey for air).

3. what torque should i put the plugs back in to?

4. is it standard for the G engines to use spark plugs with the top nipple removed? and if so why? as it seems to make ignition leads harder to find/less compatible. I noticed the bp6e bp6es question above, presumably the s has the screw nipple attachment to allow it to be used with G engines.

Thanks

Re: Correct spark plugs ?

what i find with the way the g plugs are is that the plug cap is a real pain to get off, but also makes a good water tight fit, had water over bonnet and stalled it with water over cam cover, and it started with out a problem, so if you intend in gong in water leave this type cap on.

There is a small drain hole in the plug wells which gets blocked, using a small welding rod or coat hanger, poke it through to clean it out. but hoover the crap out if you can first.

Re: Correct spark plugs ?

This is my first post having gleaned a lot of very helpful G information for which I'm very grateful.

My 280GE spat out no 6 (bulkhead) plug taking thread with it. I understand a helicoil kit is available but wondered if the plugs may have contributed to this if not correct as not mentioned above - Bosch Super Plus WR7DC +1.

Any ideas welcomed as would suggestions for a competent mechanic in the East Surrey area (everyone wants to remove the head).

Thanks and regards, Bob.

Re: Correct spark plugs ?

Hi yes you can get helicoil inserts. but No6 plughole in too close to the bukhead to allow you to be able to align the insert tool correctly and any swarf will drop into the combustion chamber and may get trapped under a valve head(had it happen) and then you go off a cylinder for a while.there is a twopart hardmetal paste that will allow you to "glue" it back in as a temporary fix but ultimately the head has to come off I'm afraid rgds
