It's all ready sold...
It was too expensive for my budget, had too complex electronics and certainly too expensive to repair. It sure was comfy and capable though. after a few minor failures that still cost quite some money to repair...the gearbox broke. I had it fixed...2400€! This truck was out of my financial league...especially if you use it to its full capability.
I simplified...less is more.
Hi G. Sorry to hear that your 270 was such a pain: from what I hear, you're not the first to have problems with these. I was also looking for the best part of the summer for a good low-mileage 290 TD (with aircon and automatic) but couldn't find what I was looking for (...or I did but the Seller messed me around and so I just left it)....instead I've gone for a low-spec version of a low mileage late '90s 300 TD (only options air con and electric windows.....otherwise no sunroof, no leather, no electric seats, no seat heaters, etc, etc). The electrics on this one are still very basic and bombproof reliable (or so I'm told compared to later versions). Thinking of converting it to run on vegoil. Haven't even picked it up yet: sourced it in Germany. Can't wait to get it on the road over here....Ph

I had a 300TD - no conversion needed to run veggie oil other than changing filters after the first few tanks as it washes out the gunk...
While the engine may have basic electronics and is fairly bombproof it can still fail... I have had my vehicle completely shut down on me for no reason other than electronic gremlins. Though a restart and it was off... Unfortunately know a few 300TD owners to experience it.
But that said it is still for me one of the best engines out there for performance vs simplicity. And other than that one occurence was extremely reliable.
As for electronic other bits - call me old but I liked my heat seaters etc... if they failed no big deal as not mission critical but comfortable the rest of the time.
Hey Ph if you want to go to Germany and pick it up next weekend then you are very welcome to have a ride with me... I am going to Hamburg area next week. For inland travel you could always use 'mitfahrgelegenheit' (ride along opportunity?) It is very cheap and somehow convenient. I could also help you with the verkehrsamt (transport department) stuff :D
