New G specialist in Germany
Just got wind of a new G-specialist shop in Germany. I understand that some of the accessories he sells are made by Desert Services which, although expensive, are real quality items.

I haven't used this chap at all but thought I'd mention it in case anyone is looking for non-standard products.

Phileas,
I'm looking for a long range (ie additional) diesel fuel tank for a new G 350 Bluetec. ORC make such items, but not for this model. I have no German skills - do this outfit offer additional fuel tanks ?
Many thanks, Nik
Hello Nik H,
There is almost anything you want, that can commissioned, question is, what price are you willing to pay?
A system to be added to a plastic tank can be made, at a guess from £900 minimum plus fittings and labour, at a rough guess the increased capacity could around twenty litres or so, you can go more, if you are willing to have a tank fitted in the rear of your boot up to the rear wheel arch height and then, covered with a sturdy board cover, so you can have storage space of the same floor area, only higher.
The things you want them to consider whilst designing the system, for a tank in the rear floor area,is that, it should be easy enough to remove, with safe fuel connections to gain access to the fuel sender unit which is accessible from the floor trap panel.
Regards,
Hi Rakesh,
Firstly, thanks for taking the time out to reply.
The ORC additional fuel tank (88l - check out ORC.de, some of which is in english) is similar to what you describe. It is offered for new cars taking petrol but not the Bluetec. ORC say that they just haven't had one to test the fuel tank in - but I wonder whether there may be a complication/space constraint because of the siting of the Adblue tank? The reason I mention this is 'will it be the same for everyone manufacturing such an additional fuel tank?'
Also, I'm guessing that this is something that would impact on insurance costs ?
Phileas,
Received a pm but was unable to open it ?
Best, Nik

I think it would pay to shop around - a lot of these products are available through various 'G specialists' based in Germany. Must be made in a factory somewhere for sensible money;)
what benefits would i get out of fiting a intercooler to my 617a?
Sehr geehrter Herr Adrian,
intercoolers are to be had only as special production, therefore the vehicle must be brought to us and then takes place the installation. For the 617A that costs approx. 1300 € gross.
Mit freundlichen Grüßen

Nik,
My pm read as follows:
I've had long range tanks fitted to both my 300TD and 500 by the guy at Desert Services. ORC's tanks are made by Woick in Germany and you could probably call them directly. You have a choice of an 80l or 60l tank, the latter fitting between the chassis rails exactly for better ground clearance and the former propping out underneath which restricts it. Bare in mind it is the TUV notation that is the expensive part for these tanks and not their manufacture. As we do not need TUV in the UK, I had my tanks specifically made to TUV specifications but without the notation (and saving a good thousand Euros in the process). Alternatively, I had a tank estimate made up by a company in Peterborough who said that it would cost about £1600: that was two years ago.
