Can anybody help please?

The lift pump has gone on my pump, I have the simple turn to losen and then lift to pump. I believe that ther is an improved version available, does any one have any details on this? Other wise does any one have a source for the lift pump section as i have pullled this of and it doesn't look servicable .

Hi Gib
is this the  hand primer / bleed pump you are referring to? it probably need seals if it is leaking when screwed down .it does not affect the pump as regards engine running but leaks and makes a mess..only used after you run out of diesel to remove the air from the injector pipes....

The hand primer with (plastic handle) seal is available as a repair kit as is the pump body, no idea of costings, but M/benz should be able to pin point the correct part for you, it has engine number cut offs, so you will need to supply chassis number at a minimum, they should be able to look up engine numbers, by raising your data card, if you have that, take it with you to the dealer.

@ Fixwin Yes its the plastic primer pump and as guessed. the actuating seals have gone but the top seal is ok. So normal running is not affected but the prime function is dead.

I haven't tried the stealer yet but belive the Hi pa pump is the same for all and it was the lift pump that was superceeded and i would like to get hold of the later one. Also i cant see any way to dismantel it as its roll sealed with the 'piston / seals' inside so a complete new unit is required.

This all staterted as i manged to leave the engine cold over night and full of 99% SVO. My usual way of starting on diesel go to the shops fill with SVO ( amount dependant on journey) and running the tank close to empty and putting in ~£5 of diesel just before i get to my destination and then leave it over night and then repeating with a fill of SVO for the next journey. So far done about 600 miles 90%+ on SVO at 98p / L makes sense.

I have managed to work out 'VO' stands for vegetable oil, but struggling to figure out what the 'S' stands for.

Any Bosch diesel injector workshop will hold them as standard spares. I replaced the original aluminum handled one with a plastic one for about £35 or so. There are upgraded "super" ones in Brass available.. follow some of these links;

There is a ten dollar spread between the kits, due to kit part difference..
They both include the in/out valves.

Re: Lift pump / Prime pump 300GD ( 617)

Hi

If you can PM me your chassis number i can check the parts at the dealer

The hand primer has changed from a silver with white top to black type

mb number a000 090 88 50  £20.90 +vat

lift pump lists approx £188.00 + vat depends on chassis number

although repair kits may be available for the valve inside from mb germany

i can check availablity with your chassis number

alternativly the om617 is also fitted in the w123 300d 300td cars and 309d vans

so second hand may be a good option

Hope this helps

Thanks

Gav

All sorted now the old part number for the priming pump is 2 447 222 126 this is superceded by 2 447 010 038.

Got one from Merlin Diesel ( who are always fast and cheap (like all good women)). paid yesterday lunchtime got here by this morning.

Pump £7.00 + P+P £5 + VAT All in £14.70 to the door.

I would stroingly advise any one to check theres and replace it with a new one as the old ones are made using L.A.I.A.I.B plastic *NB1.
