How to take a steering wheel with air bag off? and how to fix the wipers??
The wipers on my G doesn't work anymore (all in a sudden!!) ... it makes a grinding noise, when I turn it on. M2dxb suspects, that the connector between the motor and the spindle is disjointed. I have removed the grovebox and saw the spindle is located relatively left (LHD), therefore I need to remove the dash as well; to remove the dash one must remove the steering wheel beforehand. I have tried to take the cover off with the pre-airbag 463 way but it is way to stiff! Any ideas?
Thank you very much :D

hi Pok, not good in this weather. I think you need to go to your dealer for this to be de-activated as you may inadvertently set it off and this could injure you
Deleted; double post.
I have done this several times, no problems.
In the rear of the steering wheel there are two holes in the plastic/rubber; one each side. These are the access holes for the screws that hold on the airbag. You'll need a long T30 torx key. Probe into the hole with the torx key until you feel it engage in the screw. Undo both screws and lift the airbag module out of the steering wheel. Undo the electrical conector in the back of the airbag. You then have access to the steering wheel nut. Make sure you do this with the key out of the ignition!
Hi Pok
before you dismantle the dash try and move each wiper arm across the windscreen...if they move together then the problem is probably the motor linkeage if one wiper moves across the windscreen independently of the other then the control arm between the two wipers has disconnected and that will mean removing the instrument console binnacle..if the spindles have partially siezed in the housings this loads the motor and the grinding could be in the gearbox of the motor....
Hi Pok
suggest you check the movement of each wiper blade arm for travel.and remove the cover from the wiper motor in the engine bay and hold your hand on it with the motor switched on... if it vibrates or moves at all on the mountings holding it to the bulkhead then the short arm connected to item 92 may have corroded away if water has leaked onto it via the wiper spindle seals..you should be able to see if anything is moving from the glovebox opening .....
Hi Pok
I enlarged your pics to full screen and both spindles show signs of medium corrosion at the top of the arms..this causes resistance and puts the wiper motor under stress.which can result in broken teeth in the gearbox at the end of the motor...looks like you need a set of spindles and possibly a motor ( MB) cost GBP 320 + ..labour at MB is 4.5 hours @ GBP 95 + per hour ( that is based in them having experience which most MB service centres do not have) it is possible to prise the spinde link rod off on the passenger side spindle arm and replace the spindle but the steering wheel / binnacle must be removed to change the drivers side.....

Thanks!! Will try tomorrow :D
