G 560
Spotted on ebay. Is it known?

Hi,
That was on Pistonheads a year back, there was a thread on this forum re: the spec of the engine etc.
£15k for a 460 with a big engine and fancy wheels ??
It looks like a tidy machine but I am always put off by all the BS that dodgy ebay traders feel the need to include in their adverts.
Was for sale a while back, was down in Devon, there was a right up about it in a magazine last year, from what I gather it's tidy
If the car is clean, it would be a bargain; Euro 60k was spent on a nearly finished project in Germany (http://www.w463.de/ then look for Projekt 560 in the last line at the top) buying a GE 230 and transplanting a 560 engine; judging by the inconsistencies of the advert the car is everything but clean, rebuilding the engine for example would be an expensive exercise.
ALL THAT POWER and NO ABS or permanent 4 wheel drive in a 460 frame MMmm!!! I wonder what story you have to tell to get reasonable insurance cover!!! and how is it described on the V5 ..could fall into the special category with a"Q" plate indicating it to be assembled from "bits and pieces" GBP 15.000 >>>>> desirable G' or expensive toy
*** seller says it is still described as a 230GE 2299cc on the V5 MMMmmmmm !!!!!!!

this link should work, interesting vehicle
I agree with prwales, it is an interesting vehicle and the job looks like its been done cleanly/properly. For the price -as an alternative to an original 500 SWB - I think its good value for money. Iana2, if you do decide to have a look at it, it might be a poinient question to ask whether they changed the axle ratios. I drove one of these 560 conversions once - great sound - but it did seem to run at very high revs at motorway speeds making it unobtrusively loud....and probably very uneconomical. Good luck/ph
of interest would be as well where the engine/ gearbox came from (mileage etc) and whether it is an AMG engine as implied (and that should be easy to establish); the 560 SEC/ SEL were very reliable, my father drove a 560 for more than ten years accumulating more than 150k miles on the clock without any mechanical problems, but the value of these cars even if well maintained is low; it is therefore possible to get your hands on a 560 engine/ gearbox buying 560 SEL for a symbolic amount; if these facts can not be established a G500 for £30k might turn out to be the more enjoyable and cheaper option.
Now I see the ad, it cracks me up. The guy seems pretty genuine to me - G anoraks are driving him potty, and then he lists out a load of geeky tech stuff himself. I like the 460, and with this engine it should sound great but I too would have concerns with the sheer amount of modification to declare and how to insure it. Plus I am sure there is going to be stuff that breaks on it.
As I say, seems like genuine seller and car but a bit of a shot in the dark. May well have had more spent on it, but to me £10k is more worth it. And what's with the rear seats - no folding bench. A fun car.
just read the topic and saw the pics of the beast. pp is right it was the g down in devon. i remember it well. it was up for the same money then too... so i guess the seller doesnt want to loose any money. its been thoughtfully done i guess and alot of money has been ploughed into it for sure.
BUT A 460 WILL ALWAYS BE 460, ROUGH EDGED AND MORE TRUCK LIKE THAN THE 463. which isnt a bad thing if your not after s-class comfort and refinement of the 463.
the parts are worth the money alone, but you cannot expect to get back a great deal of the money for this G in the uk, that is....
read lots of good comments about the 560 not really suiting the 460 and its true. i should know because i briefly owned one !
mine has m117 5L v8 mated to the original auto box. it went like the clappers and must have been the fastes G i have ever driven.
BUT as phileas so rightly put it, the thing is greatly over geared making that lazy V8 so highly revved like a 1000 mini clubman.
imagine a mercedes v8 cruising on the motorway at 60 mph. rev's should below 2000rpm. my 500GES must have been revving at over 300 rpm !! just imagine the fuel consumption , not to mention the noise.
the rear seats bases seem to sit level with the boot area wheel arch inners. this means that anyone over the age of 7 will be hitting there head on the rooflining ! i ahd this setup on a G here. but soon removed it becaus the boot was unuseable !
all in all, this G is a one off. what its worth in real world is not more than 8k. i paid far less than that for my 500 GES which was equally as unique !
all the hassle of insurance etc i wont even go into...

Second attempt, first link didn,t work.
