Forgot to mention I got the G home.
For those who may not have been following, I bought a 280 GE off a mate that has been lying up for almost 10 years, the last 3/6 months in a field. Well I got it home last week. I gave it a quick hoover out just to take the bad look off it. I was very pleasently surprised at how good the interior is after all this time. I took the plugs out and poured a little diesel into the cylinders to give it a chance for when I start to hand crank the engine to make sure its turning ok.
I also had a poke around for rust. Inner front wheel arches were the arch meets the bulkhead, bottoms of 2 doors, but the worst area of rust is the bottom of the left rear corner, its pretty done in and the hinge although there and complete is siezed solid. A lot of repair work in that area. Bottom of the tail gate will need repaired to.
Things that I'll be needing that are obvious
2 front plastic wheel arch extensions
Possibly a rear drivers side quarter bumper if I can't do a decent repair on mine
Things I would like to replace but don't really need to.
Rear seat back rest. Mine doesn't have the headrests and I'd like that
The side fitting seats to make it a 9 seater.
All I need now is time.
Quite a collection you have there. Hope you get the G back into good nick
good luck mate ! you have alot of work to do... what we see in the photos are probably half the story,,,
check the heater fan works.
check the air vent intake below the windscreen in the engine bay. yours is probably blocked with leaves and moss. check asap.
check that the wiper spindles are not loose.
btw, this G came from factory with rear jump seats. the G never came with wheel arches either. the alloys are upgrade and rear arches were sourced but fronts were obtainable obviously. bumper ends are also narrow style non wheel arch versions.
good luck with the project, you obviously have a passion for restoration work.
