Blower switch connections
Hi I'm new to G's and I know blower problems are common and i've read through loads of posts but can't seem to find an answer any help would be really appreciated and my appologies if i'm repeating an already posted thread.
I've got a 1988 280GE (converted to 300d) Gwagon and currently the heater blower doesn't work and didn't work when i bought it about 6 months ago.
It's a 3 speed version, the heater part works fine and doesn't leak so i'm guessing it's the motor but wanted to firstly make sure i've eliminated any other possibles before changing the fan.
I've removed the switch and on the back are 4 connections and one central connection which i'm guessing is live feed, there are wires coming off 1,2,3, connections but there is no wire attached to the connection marked "0" ? should there be.
Last question is there an easy way to test and remove the fan & motor without removing the whole heater and draining it
Ooh actually one last question, i've posted images of the switch does any one know what the little wired up object does or is to the top left of the blower switch???
Thanks as ever for any help, this place has already saved me tonnes of time and effort working on my new found obsession
Given the very limited resources we have; I have, the only thing for definite I can tell you about the light at the top-right of your switch; it is not an original fitting and I can only suppose the previous owner having added it for perhaps a alarm system or a warning of sorts.
I am trying to research your question but the wiring diagram I have covers vehicle upto 1984 build.
You can access this information from Mercedes Benz's own Service and Parts portal from the web site.
You have to register on the system and access to the WIS (workshop information system) will cost you €4.00 per hour at minimum. There are other tariffs ranging to subscription on an annual basis.
If you can verify with a multimeter that the centre wire on your switch is power, then bridging to the other terminals may power your motor. Failing this, there is a rheostat incorporated in the circuit which can fail.
Unfortunately to renew this, you do have to get to the motor. This means the strip down you are dreading.
When you do the job, to make things easy, I suggest that you re-position the rheostat with some suitable extension wires and re-position the rheostat so that on reassembly, this unit can be renewed if necessary without conducting a complete strip down again.

Cheers,
A better quality English language wiring diagram attached.
According to the diag, the blower switch is 54. Terminals A & B go to the motor and the power comes from 54 which goes to F10
Just trying to remember - when I has my old blower out, I don't recall having to drain the water or disconnect the blower heat exchanger thing? But I did have to take the entire dash apart to drop the blower off the bottom and twist it back and out. Anyway, its not a short job unless you fudge a van blower in and drop it into the air intake, leaving the old broken blower in its original place. I hear folks do that, but seems crappy. I tried to replace the motor bushes on my old one, and wish I had just put a new or working one in instead! Lasted about an hour :(
2nd, according to my wiring diagram (230/280GE Operating Instruction handbook) - only 3 wires to pins 1,2 and 3. Blue, Black and Red respectively. 0 is basically just off (no circuit). Wire to the centre is violet.
I editted my post above but now see that it is the wrong wiring diag.
Hi Everyone, just wanted to say thanks for the advice so far really appreciate it, it looks like i'm going to have to begin stripping down all the interior and emptying the heater : (
I've still no idea what the connection labelled "0" on the back of the blower switch refers too as the diagran is for the older version.
I suppose if this was easy it wouldn't be as much fun
