Anyone know G400cdi on Pistonheads
Hi All,
Typical really don't have my G wagen sold more than a month and Im lookin at gettin back into G ownership again. Somethin with a bit more pullin power required I think.
Saw this one on Pistonheads today its as above in Matte black and the blurb with it says owner is GWOA menber.
Anyone shed any light on this one please either by posting reply or PM me.
Oh and does the tape stuff come off easily?
Regards,
Mike
Hi tyreman,
That was the G400cdi that was sold by: chesham LHD centre only two months ago or so, was a Green car before it was wrapped!
details of old dealer can be found on link below!
http://www.cheshamlhdcentre.co.uk
p.s if you look carefully on one of the rear door pictures-at the top you'll see green somewhere!
p.p.s The car was up for only £18995, so for sure went under that price.....I remeber that car because of the Brabus front spoiler.
totally dynamic website: They quoted £1500 for a LWB G-wagon over a year ago to be wrapped...

***Looks to me the guy's making a decent profit, good on him***
Oh that green one that's been floating around for a while, more to the point what gwoa member owned it before, that wrapping looks a tidy job, but Matt black, mm not a colour I am keen on.
OK Sorry if I missed the memo but what is a G65? Is that the one Mr Perfect had a few years back - thought it was a G630...? Only G65 I could find was a BMW motorcycle...... At first I thought this was Goochies old one - though why does it say G550 at the back when its a 420?
Nice skin on it, though I would actually have to agree with Mr Perfect, not my cuppa tea!
Tyreman - if you want me to I am happy to pop across and take a look for you, just pop me a PM and consider it done.

When I was enquiring recently about giving my G a partial respray I was advised by several people that I would be far cheaper getting a wrap.
Has anyone any experience of these. I would have thought after a few brushes with hedgerows and a couple of power washes the wrap would be looking a bit knackered.
Hi Bigblock,
Haven't had experience but a family member has a newish E-class AMG model also wrapped in Matt Black, after a year of having it done it still looks good as the day they applied it.... Even the way they did the corners, arches etc even around mirrors and wiper parts all look decent. And he get's his washes from the local 'polish blokes'-power jets and weird chemicals...
Wrap on an older car can hide a lot of faults like rust, dents etc, But what I was told by 'Totally dynamic' some time ago was that the surface of where they apply the stuff must be straight with no rust bubbles and most importantly it should have a laquer finish for the adhesive to work effectively.
The wrap can be taken off with equipment from 'totally dynamic' for a DIY job.
They do charge a much less fee to take the wrap off if you get bored with the colour.
It's tuff material, and suppose if you encouter a scratch or light parking bump the wrap should take the punch and not effect the body beneath - depending on the force of the incident I assume.

Thanks for the info Gooch.
I suppose if an area of the wrap got damaged then you could just have that section replaced. If it is tough stuff and will stand up to the power washer then it is worth considering. I was always concerned that the edges would start to peel and it would look a bit naff.
The bodywork on my G is pretty straight it's main problem is lots of scratches from offroading and quite a few rust spots that i have ignored. The rust could be ground off and sealed then a wrap would give it a whole new appearance. For £1500 it is probably 30% of the cost of a re-spray.
Wraps were designed for commercial vehicles, so that they could easily be sign written; therefore, they are quite durable. However, like most things, the qualiy of the vinyl used varies greatly, as does the quality of the job. Racoon are one of the best but they also charge that way. A £1,500 job will possibly be quite poor, so viewing is essental. I have seen some wraps that look good from far but far from good. I have also seen car with wraps removed, where cut lines (thin razor damage to the paint) becomes apparent.
As for the Matt Black, colour is a personal thing, but IMHO it panders to all the worst associations the G has. I certainly wouldn't view it as a positive.
Yes but the £1500 quoted was down from £1900 originally quoted, Totally Dynamic' have been known to do over 6-7 G wagons including footballers.
And am pretty sure they have charged them a lot more money too being newer ones, I did tell them My old one was a 95', sure to them it changes things, but to me it's the same shape G-wagon 463.
Hi there again Tyreman',
There was a G300 GEL Auto in Blue with Black leathers last month at Charles Irionside that was a clean one.

This car has been in Edinburgh with same owner for about 4/5 years, spent lotsof time at main dealer rather than on the road with lots of electronic faults.... Can help if needed !!

Is that the G300 or G400?
It's probably the G400cdi, had one before with a host of problems-electrical stuff.
One of, if not the last one sold by mb in the 90's. Nice motor, but not 19k worth
The 400 ....
