Anyone Know This Car?
Well I went to see this G55 and it seems somewhat of an oddball, Imported from Ireland apparently made in 2000. Condition was fair, nothing special at all considering the price. But I cant seem to find any info about other RHD G55's of a similar age??????????
What'cha think?
i think that was belonged to Buckalec from the club around xmas 07 till early o8 ?
i dont remember it on the plate it was on a V plate ended in something like FHT ?
if it was his one it was a minter
But I cant seem to find any info about other RHD G55's of a similar age??????????
You would not !!! I am pretty sure only a hand full of them have been built by AMG .... so it is a very rare 500, it's been well know in the club and belong to a well know member for a few years then sold on to another member in Ireland .. It then came back in mainland.
As foreman is saying it was a well looked after 500.
Not sure if that helps.

Try and get the vin no: and check with a dealer.
Hi,
As Foneman said...I owned this car for a couple of years.
It had a lot of history when it left me, which I passed onto the new owner. Re. The VIN check...I recall something similar happened when I checked...think there is a reversed digit in the 17...
When I bought it, I was told that there had only ever been 7 of these built in RHD. Originally a G500, bought new in France. Shipped to AMG for "55" conversion and a further 30k later she emerged!!. Apparently the new owner worked in UK a lot, hence his need for RHD...
I had lots of fun with her...lack of use and a fair offer saw her leave the Emerald Isle...Seems to have increased in value from my time...but there you go!!
If you want to talk further..drop me a line
You are right... 7 is the number of G55s RHD made in the late nineties. I have only known one such G and they were made to order, i.e., they left Graz as G500s, were then shipped to Affalterbach for the AMG conversion and then VIN'ed as 463.241 G500/G55AMG... RHD examples should bear VIN starting with 46324127 and engine type M113E55.
Good luck with the purchase... I am green with envy
A couple of pics that I could dig from a similar G then owned by a GWOA member:

Isn't that the same G? Jonathon's, the one that came to the 25th in Merklingem. Slow Hand's
I think the story is the same... Sold new in Paris to a gentleman who travelled regularly to the UK. Too much of a coincidence when only seven of these were ever made. But I wasn't sure so I did not say anything.

Hi, yes it was mine before I sold it to Martin.
I bought it from its first owner in 2004, a Swiss Garlic farmer from Hampshire! He ordered it in Paris but kept it in England, didnt meet him as he left England due to a divorce, guess that why he no longer wanted a RHD or he may have ordered a RHD in 2004.
It was a good car but realy no different to a 500 same brakes and suspension only difference was the engine upgrade and exaust, didnt seem much quicker.
I had a few plates on it G 5OOJ then 7 JOM, 7 JOM had previously been on a Golf that was in an accident, it has showed up on other hpi checks since, that may be the problem.
Its about 3 1/2 years since I sold it but if its worth £30,000 its been a good investment for someone, sadly not me.I found it hard to sell with less miles back then. I had a sensible deal with Martin taking "Ruby" in part ex.
It was a good car but seems like a lot of money for the age and mileage, may think diferently if I was selling it.
Good luck
Jonathan

glad marty and buckalec chimed in to clear the fog.....
that G55 is a great 4x4 !!!!! worth the money despite the price increase i guess. i think it had a kick down issue that was later sorted out.
i wish i had brought the G55 instead of my present 463 [ruby] which is also a rare G300 , not a 300GEL, which has proved ultra reliable since i purchased it off marty back then.
Will be a 500 next, then a stab at the new 55 G's? lol
Enjoy your new spoil and you can now get it dirty!

Hi
If you look in the "gallery" section of this website you will see pics of this G' as it was a few weeks ago..click onto "landcruiser" then "track" at top of window to see previous dealers posts and pics
The price has now increased by £1989!!!!
I was intersested in this but I woud prefer a swb with a bit less mileage and not necessarily an AMG.
Does the panel have and idea of what a realistic price would be?
I reckoned on about £22K so that now put's me £10K adrift.
Wheehouse have what looks like a nicer example:
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201119386911195/sort/price...
and at £25K I'd start talking to them......however........that 25 is 25 plus VAT !!!!
Am I being unrealistic and should I stick with my original plan of putting in a v8 lump and uprating brakes etc of my existing wagen which is sound in every respect, it's just underpowered. This was my original plan but have not been able to progress it for health reasons. I havn't priced it out properly but I have a feeling it would be a cheaper and maybe a better route.
(I have a recurrent fantasy of putting in my SL60 lump!!!!)
Any ideas gratefully received.
Thanks
It's not just a matter of installing the new v8 engine, the standard gearing will be wrong too. The 300 does 3000 rpm at 60 mph, a 500 does 2300 at 60 mph. It uses a different transfer box and 5 speed gearbox to reduce the revs. So if you put in a v8 and left the gearing standard you would be using so much fuel. Ian had a 560 in a swb 463 which had a new v8 transfer box and it got 10mpg or thereabouts. A standard 500 will get closer to 20mpg
20MPG? Only if your driving miss Daisy or my wife is driving it. :) LOL

If any one is interested I have just posted an ad for my G500, offers invited. Thanks
