Side view mirrors
The mirrors are always heated. You will find either the laminated heating element or its bonded connector behind the glass has failed. The circuit is independent of the rear window demister.
I have exactly the same problem with my 1993 SWB 300 petrol.
So, do we have to take all the door paneling off to get to the nuts holding the wing mirror to the door or is it possible to get behind the glass without having to do all that? And how to replace the glass when checked?
No, the glass can be removed from the mirror housing without having to dismantle anything. It's many years since I last removed one and I just can't recall exactly how at the moment. Something like tilt the mirror all the way down and reach a release clip behind with an appropriate hook tool or screwdriver. The new mirror glass will snap beck in, after re-attaching the electrical connector.
The heating element is like a flexible printed-circuit bonded to the rear of the mirror glass and the electrical connector that attaches to it tends to corrode and break-off.
hi,
any idea where can i get wing mirror right hand side for my 1992 wagen?
thanks

The usual: Order new OEM replacement from MB Parts, Check eBay (other online markets also available) for a 2nd hand, or ring some of the G-Wagen specialists, like G:Wagen in Mapledurham/Reading.
Or someone on here might happen by with one? I don't think there are any variations.

I think you meant door mirror, this is a dealer part only and getting a second hand one would be difficult. Only option is a dealer supplied unit and that is going to be expensive.
If you did in deed mean a wing mirror then sourcing from the Japanese market is the only option in my view as they are keen on wing mirrors.
If is just the glass you want replacing then given a pattern you can have a glazier cut a universal mirror glass for you to attach over the broken one. But for this you do need the frame work to attach the glass onto.
