Hi there
I have a lwb 1985 g wagon and we are putting back in a reconditioned 4 speed auto box! After installing there is a vibration and we may be missing a bracket from the gear box to the transfer case? Could anyone please send a picture underneath their G to see if we've put it back right and if we're missing any thing else? Any help would be appreciated.

A manual 5 speed getrag box will give much better mpg and better performance

I loved my 5 speed manual. Now have a 4 speed auto and miss that extra gear. Doesn't help the poster though. I will take a pic in the morning. 230ge auto.

From the other site, he got the answer and I provided a couple of pictures of the brace from the engine or gearbox to the transfer box.  Its an A-frame affair and MB no longer make it, so if its lost you need a spare part.  You get different lengths depending on 6 cylinder or 4 cylinder etc.

Its also possible to be mis-assembly of the prop shafts (not in original orientation?), but the fact that the brace is not there is a pretty good start.

HI - PRWales - you answered my question on another post - will this getrag gearbox go straight in or is there work to be done to make it match the 110 engine??

Thanks for any help.

I'll ask them, it may not as the 230 is the 4 cylinder version of the later 6 cylinder 103 engine that replaced the 280, as soon as I get a reply I'll pass it on

Message back is that the starter is on the opposite side so won't fit
