I hope to modify my 1999 G500 to fit the new overtaking mirrors with built in indicators (G55 type). Apart from the extra wire for the indicator light, the loom should be the same, the physical fittings also. Anyone done it yet, any idea how much the mirrors are, any tips, am I mad! I'll let you all know how I get on!

Mirrors

There where quite a number displaying this mod at Stuttgart. The difficult bit seems to be hiding the hole left by removal of the old mirror, I may be able to help here by making suitable badges to cover it.

I was hoping that all I had to do was to change the outer shell of the mirrors, so where are the holes? Anyway I.m a bit stuck because without the chassis number of a late G400 or G55 fitted with mirrors, I can't yet seem to order the parts. Anyone got a late G with indicators thjat I can borrow the chassis number for?

I think Bill got confused with fitting the 463 mirrors to a 460 which is obviously not what you are asking here.

I looked it up in my EPC for both the later G55AMG and G270CDI and both show the mirror with built-in indicators and in both cases the EPC list a part number for the whole mirror assembly (not just the casing). The part numbers are similar for both models and vary depending on the colour of the car. The part numbers I got were:

LH mirror: 463 810 49 16, 51 16, 69 16, 71 16
RH mirror: 463 810 50 16, 52 16, 68 16, 70 16

But I could not find the prices in the MB website :?

If you really really want them I suggest that you go to your MB garage and get them to simulate using as model a later G55AMG. You don't really need a chassis number for this. Failing all, you can use any of the parts numbers above. They should at least be able to tell you how expensive it would be

indicator mirrors

Hi went to my local unimog dealer using the part numbers in previous message, the mirrors are £ 187 plus vat from mercedes, the reason why you could not use the number on the internet, is because the number is too long, I belive the last 6 digits are the paint code number for the mirrors, yes at that price mercedes will supply the mirrors in any colour you want

Well, what a job! All finished now. Mirrors cost £178.97+vat each, and are only supplied in silver, you have to re-paint them to your body colour. The part numbers supplied by Jesus are correct but too long, but this is covered in a previous reply. The loom provided only fit's post 2000 models so some modification is required. Also you have to be pretty carefull to wire them properly as the innards of the mirrors are disimilar to the old ones, not just the indicators but the built in puddle lights & heaters. If anyone needs help just let me know. Worth it in the end though. The other half on being told about the puddle lights remarked " Oh just like you eh! puddled" Next on the list is to re-finish the BRABUS wheels (Prestine Wheels in Milton Keynes)
