SUMMARY:

It was great to see a few for this meet and a lovely day out (in the sun).  We had Geoffrey G, Boxy G, Bertha (LWB)... but it was 4 SWB versus 1 LWB.   1 460 and 4 463s.   We had some goodies and watched the Dyno process and got the reports.  One downer was that we broke a G at the end - a G300 developed a nasty squeal from the top end and we suspect a follower and something popped off and was jammed against the camshaft.  In the hope it was 'just' a broken bearing on the alternator (was a a new recon one) we disconnected that, but definitely top end.  To be resolved.

That's the thing with a rolling road - you are stressing the engine (in particular) as well as the transmission.  And even the tyres if you are getting the equavalent road speed of 100mph+   You can find weak points which otherwise would be fine for months (or go pop when you are overtaking on the M4).

So we retired to the pub to reflect and eat.  Turns out Faringdon is a little hub of unusual cars - another new G, Spyder, Alfa, Mini Cooper and others...mixed in with country Landies.

Thanks to those that made the trip - a few pics attached.   We'll plan something similar for another weekend.

That's great.  That's 2 of you at least for the Dyno.

I had mine done and the only challenge was my auto box kept kicking down at max load, so it difficult to get the top rpm and gear reading.  There seemed to be no way to stop the kick-down.

Update at the end of this week.

Food / Lunch / Dinner after the workshop at the Bell Hotel in Faringdon Marketplace.  Parking available at the rear, or at car park pay and display (both down road on the right).   Depending how long we are at the Tuning Workshop, expect to be here by 1-2pm.

5 confirmed now, with one at least for the rolling road.  I may re-test mine while there.

Camping overnight is optional (depends how far you come really), but I will book an open air venue for an early dinner before folks head home.

4 confirmed at the moment.  Others possible.  Lets do this.

There is space inside the workshop in the event of rain, just noisy with the Dyno rolling

Add your interest here if you plan to come along.

Re: GWOA G Tuning Workshop Meet - Faringdon, Oxon. With Campout

Re-promoting this.  I've spoken with Dynotech and they are still good to present/discuss G tuning and to run power test runs on the rolling road.  Find out what your G has.

The campsite will be fine and there are B&B options for the Friday/Saturday for those preferring a real bed.  I'll speak to the farmer about driving round some of his fields!

Suggested week-end:   still 12th/13th September 2020.

Who can make it - we need half a dozen.

Shame my G is currently still in the state of being restored, otherwise I would have been in.  Would like to see what the 606 is putting out now.

Is there a booking process for the engine test/tuning?

That's great.  Lets collect other names and rally some more.

You can be first on the list for the HP/rolling road.  We'll have time for about 5 or 6 runs I think
