Hi, I've just bought a set of G55 AMG brakes in the hope that I can fit them to my 1990 W463 300GD. The kit is complete apart from the rear called carriers, any ideas? Does anyone know what the minimum rim size will be please? The car currently has 16 inch steel wheels. Thanks Mud

The rear axle has drums brakes on your G and disks on the G55. So you will need a conversion kit. Some G55 need 18" wheels to accommodate the caliper.

Agree with Roly. I think you'll probably need 18" rims: If the brakes are the same as the standard G500s, 16" rims will fit no problem. Ph

You probably know that the rear axle for drum-brakes has tapered roller bearings, which are strong but allow a fair bit of side-to-side movement. The 463s with rear disc brakes have ball-bearings as the brake discs cannot tolerate lateral movement. There may be a conversion kit, I don't know.

The 'carriers which you mentioned are probably the forged steel brackets to which the rear calipers attach.

The larger, AMG brakes require 18", but the standard G500 brakes will accommodate 16" rims, as many use the 16" Atic rims with winter tyres.

Hi guys, thanks for the advice. The calipers have arrived, can anyone confirm what I've got please as I am struggling to identify from the numbers stamped on them. There is a big number 55 on them. I'll try and post some pictures. Thanks Mud
