Replacement Motor options

Good day all, what motor options would you suggest.
I want to remove the Ford V6 and return my 240GD to an all merc state.
What would be an ideal combination for the 240GD diff ratios (5.33) in my clunker? 230 / 280 SE motor and 33inch tires to keep the revs down?
It would be nice to fit a more modern diesel motor, but taking the price difference into consideration one would have to travel quite far in a petrol driven car to make up the difference in cost.
